The Nairn Bowling Club marked a record attendance for its opening day this year, with a great turnout of more than 70 participants.

Among the crowd were both seasoned members and fresh faces, with visitors travelling from neighbouring clubs in Forres, Cawdor, and Inverness to join in the celebration.

The symbolic first jack of the season was expertly delivered by Alice Taylor, a stalwart member whose dedication to the club spans generations.

Club President Bob Ferenth officially opened the green for what he said promises to be an exciting season ahead.

Reflecting on the club's achievements, Mr Ferenth highlighted the remarkable success of the previous year, during which the Nairn Bowling Club was honoured with prestigious accolades, including the Scottish Women in Sports MG Alba Champion Sport Club and the coveted Gold Bowlsmark accreditation from Bowls Scotland.

He said: “Such recognition cements the club's position as a beacon of excellence, with only two clubs in all of Scotland attaining this esteemed level of achievement.

“We are very grateful to all those who attended our opening day as well as the club's loyal supporters, sponsors, and visiting clubs.”

“This is a sport built on principles of camaraderie and accessibility,” he added.
”With its multigenerational appeal and family-friendly atmosphere, bowls offers a unique opportunity for individuals of all ages and abilities to come together in the spirit of competition and camaraderie.

Bob also highlighted the club's ongoing collaboration with Nairn Academy, providing students with the opportunity to experience the joys of the game.

He said: “Unlike many sports, bowls does not require superhuman athleticism to excel, making it accessible to all who wish to participate.

“For those intrigued by the allure of bowls, the Nairn Bowling Club in Albert Street extends a warm invitation to join them every Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday at 1.40 pm.

“Come along and experience the warmth of the Nairn Bowling Club – you'll be greeted with open arms and a friendly smile.”
