MARTIN Callum says it was a special moment in his career to be awarded a testimonial from Clachnacuddin after 13 years service to the club.

Tributes were paid to the midfielder with a testimonial match against Elgin City at Grant Street Park on Wednesday night.

Callum was given a guard of honour from both teams as he was applauded on to the pitch accompanied by his three children.

Clachnacuddin went on to win the match 6-3 with Callum taking a penalty for the first time in his Lilywhites career, which he scored.

The testimonial also raised money for Mikeysline, a charity which helps people who have problems with mental health and also deals with suicide prevention.

Callum (35) says it was a special night and one of the highlights of his career with the only Highland League team he has played for.

“I really enjoyed the night and it was a fun game to play in,” Callum said after the match.

“It was a nice moment to mark all the years that I have played for the club.

“It was nice that I was able to walk on to the pitch with my kids.

“My family has sacrificed a lot for me as it is such a big commitment playing and training in part time football, three times a week for 13 years.

“To have that moment walking on to the pitch with them was special.”

Speaking about taking a penalty for the first time, Callum was just relieved that it went in.

“I have never taken a penalty before with Clachnacuddin,” he said.

“It wasn’t a bad finish and I will take it.”

Callum signed for Clachnacuddin in 2011 from former North Caledonian League team Muir of Ord Rovers and has been ever present in the first team and went on to become captain.

He is also a first team coach with the Lilywhites in addition to his duties on the field.

He says that he is enjoying the coaching side of the game, but in terms of his playing career, he will be considering how long he intends to continue on the pitch after Saturday’s final game of the season against Lossiemouth at Grant Street Park.

He said: “I enjoy coaching, I am getting older now and I am looking to move into that side of things.

“I’ve not made a decision regarding playing, but I am not getting any younger.

“I will see after the season finishes and take it from there.”
